Extremely poor and living on the streets with her mother, Patty Montanari (Alyssa Milano) believes that her luck has changed when she meets a policeman. She marries him, becoming in a few years mother of two boys - Joey (Alessandro Costantini)and Nino (Devon Graye). But her husband is diagnosed with cancer and soon dies, leaving her alone with two children, without money and without a job. Being afraid that she could not support her family, intelligent Patty gets involved in smuggling cigarettes . She meets the mobster Frank Russo (Jason Gedrick), with whom she begins a long passionate love affair, although the man was married to Mary (Gina Wilkinson) and had a teenage boy named Mouse (Zak Longo). Skillfully managing a nightclub, Patty Montanari gains the attention and admiration of the Mafia boss, Salvatore Palmeri (James Caan), who propose her to work for him. The situation complicates when FBI introduces an undercover agent in the Mafia.
