Jasira Maroun (Summer Bishil) is 13 when the first Gulf War breaks out. She is just entering puberty and her mother does not know what to do with her. Seeking to give her a more firm hand, her mother sends her to Houston where she will live with her father. Rifat Maroun (Peter Macdissi) was born in Lebanon. He is strict and both he and his daughter begin to experience prejudice that is being suffered by all Middle Easterners because of the Gulf War. Many things are different in Houston and Jasira begins to have a variety of new experiences. She is sexually awakening and must fend off the unwanted attentions of some including that of her friend’s father. It is time for Jasira to grow up.
