The movie The Visitor is a drama in which the main character is a New England college professor named Walter Vale (Richard Jenkins) whose beloved wife died. Walter is getting by in his professional life doing the least amount of work possible. He keeps an apartment in New York City, and he has to visit there to present a professional paper. When he unlocks the door to his own apartment, he discovers a young immigrant couple living there – they have been paying rent to the caretaker, and believe the apartment to be theirs. Walter is moved to let the young man named Tarek Khalil (Haaz Sleiman) and woman named Zainab (Danai Gurira) continue to stay in the apartment. The biggest problem which arises is that the couple does not have legal status in the U. S., and Tarek gets arrested and threatened with deportation. Walter gets a lawyer for Tarek, and hosts Tarek’s mother Mouna (Hiam Abbass) when she comes to help out her son.
